On Tuesday, our featured keynote speaker is David Macaulay, author of The Way Things Work, and his latest title, The Way We Work. Born in the UK, Macaulay moved to the US, and was raised in Bloomfield, NJ. It was in New Jersey where he first started to draw.
He graduated from The Rhode IslandSchool of Desgin (RISD) in 1964 with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture.Macaulay's books have soldmore than two million copies in the United States, been translated into a dozenlanguages, and been widely praised. Time magazine said of hiswork, "What [Macaulay] draws he draws better than any other pen-and-inkillustrator in the world". His numerous awards include the MacArthurFellows Program award, the Caldecott Medal, won forhis book Black andWhite, the BostonGlobe-Horn Book Award, the Christopher Award, an American Instituteof Architects Medal, the Washington Children's Book Guild Nonfiction Award, theDeutscher Jugend literaturpreis, and a Dutch Silver Slate Pencil Award.On Wednesday, our featured keynote speaker is Dr. Olivia Gude nationally renown scholar, writer, artist, and founder of the Spiral Workshop based in Chicago, IL. She has worked in the field of community public art for 20 years and has created over 30 large-scale mural and mosaic projects, working with inter-generational groups, teens, elders, and children. She has created major works in Los Angeles, CA; Madison, Wisconsin; DeKalb, Illinois as well as in the Chicago area.
Professor Gude is the Coordinator of Art Education and an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design atthe University of Illinois at Chicago. She is an active member of the IllinoisArts Council Artist-in-Residency program and is a member of the Senior ArtistCircle of the Chicago Public Art Group.

Conference Registration Information
- For your convenience, Early-Bird Registration will be online and available July through September 10, 2010.
- Online registration will be available in July. You will be notified by an AENJ email in the form of a "webbeat".
- Online registration is for members paying by Credit Card and Check ONLY.
- Use a Credit Card - It's the quickest way to ensure you get a seat in a ticketed workshop. Checks will be accepted BUT, you will be "waitlisted" until your check clears and you may not get your first choice of a workshop.
- Purchase orders continue to be a problem for us to process in a timely manner. We encourage you to pay first, then ask for reimbursement from your district.
- Print version of the Conference Brochure will be mailed in early August.
