Elementary School Division
The Elementray Dinner is May 14th at The Collins House in Merchantville
The Advisory Board Meeting at the conference gave me the opportunity to talk to some of the elementary members of AENJ. It was a short but productive meeting, and really it only lasted about thirty minutes. It brought to light areas of exploration for the Elementary Division to look into this year.
At this meeting there was a request for more early childhood elementary workshops at the conference, next year. So if you have a great lesson for this age group please consider doing a workshop next fall. We all agree there was a need for more art professional development of all types during other times of the year and throughout the state.
One interesting idea grew out of a discussion about the need for art educators to have resource books readily available. The idea was to approach this problem by working with the public libraries. Our plan is to develop a list of books that are recommended by AENJ for furthering art education. This list would then be sent to the head of the NJ public library and would also be available for our members to send to their local librarian. I know the librarian in my local library would be open to this kind of suggestion for ordering books from an official group. She is always looking for guidance in providing proper books for areas that she is not an expert in.
So, if you have suggestions for books to add to this list or for what direction you would like AENJ to head for in this coming year, please contact me, my email is mcguffsilver@comcast.net.
This meeting of the Elementary Division proved once again to me what a dynamic group AENJ is and how important it is to get together and share ideas. May the New Year bring us many more times to do just that.
